/Issued 7:21 PM CDT, Sunday, August 6, 2017/
First five days of August 2017 have been very cool across a large portion of the U.S.; The exceptions to this have been over the northeast U.S. where warmer than normal temperatures have occurred so far this month, and also in the far western U.S. where very hot temperatures have resulted in well above normal temperature departures during the first five days of this month. Will see how this temperature anomaly map looks a few weeks from now.

Less rain showers across the Northland today compared to the last few days. Partly to mostly cloudy skies were common today with highs in the 70s except near Lake Superior where highs were in the 60s thanks to a lake breeze today. Spotty showers across the area this afternoon, but 90-95% of the area stayed dry today.
Isolated showers in far northeast Minnesota tonight otherwise dry across the remainder of the area under partly cloudy skies. Areas of fog late tonight. Cool with lows in the 40s and 50s, maybe some 30s for the third night in a row in the traditional cold spots up north.
A pleasant summer day ahead for Monday. Areas of fog burning off by 8-9 AM otherwise mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. A few spotty showers are possible in extreme northeast Minnesota otherwise dry. Highs in the middle 70s to lower 80s.
High pressure which was over the northern Rockies late this afternoon will head east/southeast through the northern Plains and upper Midwest through Tuesday morning, this high then shifts off to the south/east Tuesday afternoon which will allow a cold front to sink south out of central Canada. As this boundary approaches from the north, moisture will increase as will the instability. Expect scattered showers and a few thunderstorms in parts of the Northland from Tuesday evening through Wednesday night. Note: Severe weather is not expected with this system, but could be some locally heavy rainfall where thunderstorms occur during the middle of the week.
Highs Tuesday ranging from the upper 70s to lower 80s in east central Minnesota, northwest Wisconsin and near Lake Superior with cooler 60s and lower 70s for far northern Minnesota.
