Thursday's high temperature forecast. Source: https://graphical.weather.gov
A wide range in temperatures over the Northland today with far northern Minnesota in the low 50s while it was warmer farther south with highs ranging from the mid 60s to low 70s from the Iron Range, North Shore and Brainerd Lakes area, east through northwest Wisconsin. The reason for this contrast in temperatures is a cold front which is slowly moving SE across the Northland today -- Behind this boundary 850mb temperatures were down into the 0 to -4 C range this afternoon and some of that cooling will filter into the rest of our area during the next 24 hours.
*Cold front will exit to the S/E by later this evening with some clouds persisting tonight but this should give way to quite a bit of sunshine Thursday as high pressure builds into the upper Midwest. Lows tonight in the 30s to lower 40s but 20s are possible in northern Minnesota. Highs Thursday in the upper 50s to mid 60s (Right around average for May 11th)
*Looking ahead to the weekend -- Looks mainly dry at the moment but an east wind will return Saturday and Sunday which will lead to cool temperatures near Lake Superior especially Sunday. Inland locations should get into the 60s both Saturday and Sunday with quite a bit of sunshine expected especially Saturday.
Forecast for Duluth and Superior
.Tonight... Partly to mostly cloudy. Low 35 to 40. Wind west at 10 to 20 mph becoming north.
.Thursday... Mostly sunny. High 59 to 64. Wind north at 10 to 20 mph.
