Snowfall totals from today in this post. A little more snow this evening; Some sun on Sunday; Several inches of snow possible Tue

/Issued 5:34 PM CST, Saturday, February 4, 2017/

I still think there is potential for 4 to 7 inches of snow in the Twin Ports on Tuesday but there are differences in the amount of precip that falls per model guidance with the GFS model showing much lighter precipitation totals which would likely result in less than 4 inches of snow accumulation.  Stay tuned.

Weather Synopsis for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin

The bulk of today's snow has fallen north of Highway 2 in northeast Minnesota where 1-3 inches of snow accumulation has been reported through late this afternoon with a few locations along the North Shore closing in on the 4 inch mark.

Along and south of the Highway 2 corridor skies were mostly cloudy to partly sunny at times with scattered snow showers and flurries but accumulations have been very light.

Quite a contrast in temperatures this afternoon with upper teens in far northern Minnesota to the low 30s in east central Minnesota and over parts of northwest Wisconsin.

A trough of low pressure currently moving into western Minnesota ( 5 PM) will move quickly to the east and will exit the Northland by late tonight -- Areas of snow will linger in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin mainly through midnight.  Additional snow accumulations will range from around 0.5 inches to 1.5 inches.

High pressure builds southeast out of the northern Plains on Sunday giving us partly to mostly cloudy skies.  Note:  There could be some lake effect snow showers during the morning along the South Shore of Lake Superior as winds shift to the N/NW late tonight into Sunday morning.

Lows tonight will range from the single digits and teens below zero across northern Minnesota to the single digits above zero in eastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.  Highs on Sunday will range from the single digits and teens in northern Minnesota to the 20s in eastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

There could be some light snow at times Sunday night into Monday mostly across northern Minnesota with snow accumulations of up to 2 inches possible.  At the moment most of this snow looks to remain north of Duluth.
