Not as cold tonight; Light snow on the way for Saturday (1-4" accumulations, greatest amounts north of Duluth) Several inches of snow possible in much of the Northland late Mon-early Wed of next week

/Issued 4:13 PM CST, Friday, February 3, 2017/

Here's my snowfall accumulation map for Saturday.

2-3" totals especially north of Duluth with up to 4" possible along the North Shore of Lake Superior mainly northeast of Two Harbors. I'm thinking the Twin Ports and far northern Wisconsin will get about 1-2" of snow by late Saturday evening.

Not much has changed in the model guidance for the system for early next week.  Potential for several inches of snow in much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin from late Monday through early Wednesday.  In addition to the snow, gusty east winds around Lake Superior on Tuesday could result in areas of blowing and drifting of the snow.  Stay tuned.

Weather Synopsis for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin

There's been a few patchy clouds passing through the Northland today but overall another sunny day with slightly warmer temperatures compared to the past two days.  Highs today were in the mid teens to around 20 degrees.

High pressure along the Nebraska-Kansas state line this afternoon will move off to the east tonight moving into the Ohio Valley region by dawn.  Clear to partly cloudy skies tonight and not as cold as previous nights with lows ranging from the single digits below to single digits above zero.

Increasing cloudiness across the area Saturday morning with light snow developing during the day as a low pressure system moves east/northeast out of western South Dakota.  Areas of light snow should linger into Saturday evening before ending later in the night as low pressure exits off to the east.

Snowfall accumulations on Saturday in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin are forecast to range from around 1.0" to 3.0" but locally higher amounts are possible along the North Shore of Lake Superior due to some lake enhanced snow.

Highs on Saturday will warm into the 20s with lows Saturday night in the single digits and teens.
