Forecast Discussion for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin
Short Term Forecast - Confidence: High.
Tonight through Saturday night (April 15-16)
A frontal boundary will move slowly toward the east and should move into western Minnesota on Saturday -- Scattered showers are possible at times through Saturday night mainly over north central Minnesota. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible with generally weak instability in place so were not looking at any strong or severe storms but an isolated storm and occasional lightning is certainly possible in north central Minnesota. Dry weather continues in eastern and northeast Minnesota and in northwest Wisconsin.
Low temperatures tonight will be in the 40s and 50s with 30s possible close to Lake Superior. Highs on Saturday will be in the 60s and 70s but cooler near Lake Superior, lows Saturday night will be in the 40s and 50s. Winds will be out of the south or east at 10 to around 20 mph.
Extended Forecast - Confidence: Medium to High.
Sunday through Tuesday (April 17-19)
Scattered showers on Sunday as a cold front moves slowly toward the south/east across the Northland. High pressure builds in for Monday and Tuesday which should result in generally dry weather for our area but the computer models aren't in the best of agreement for early next week as some show rain affecting parts of the Northland on Monday.
The warmest day during the extended looks to be on Sunday with highs in the 60s and 70s. Highs on Monday will be in the 40s and 50s with 30s near Lake Superior. Highs on Tuesday will be in the 50s and 60s with cooler temperatures near Lake Superior.
Low temperatures Sunday night will range from the 40s and 50s in eastern Minnesota and in most of northwest Wisconsin with 30s near Lake Superior and in northern Minnesota. Lows Monday night will be in the 30s.
Long Range Forecast - Confidence: Medium to High.
Above average temperatures should continue during the long range although it will be cooler at times near Lake Superior -- Shower chances on the 21st-22nd, and possibly again on the 24th-25th.
