Winter weather advisory for parts of the Northland

Note:  All or parts of Northwest Wisconsin may be included in the winter weather advisory by later Today.  Also, the advisory for parts of Northern/Eastern Minnesota may be upgraded to a winter storm warning later Today per latest forecast discussion from the Duluth National Weather Service.  Stay tuned.

Snowfall totals of at least 4" valid for Saturday through Sunday Morning.

Red=High risk for at least 4" of snow.
Green=Moderate risk for at least 4" of snow.
Blue=Slight risk for at least 4" of snow.

Location:  Much of Northern and Northeast Minnesota.

Timing:  6 AM CST Saturday until 7 AM CDT Sunday

Discussion:  Snow will develop Saturday Morning.  The snow could be mixed with sleet or freezing rain at times, especially from the Twin Ports south to Moose Lake and west to Hill City.  Snow will continue to fall Saturday Afternoon into Saturday Night before tapering off Sunday Morning.

Total snowfall accumulations:  3-7".

Winds and visibility:  Wind speeds generally under 20 mph during this event.  The snow will also be the wet kind so blowing and drifting should not be much of an issue.  Visibilities could drop to under a mile at times in falling snow.

Impacts:  Travel may become difficult Saturday into Sunday Morning with snow and slush covered roads.  Use caution if you have travel plans and be sure to slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Pine River...Brainerd...Aitkin...and McGregor.

Discussion:  Snow and mixed snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to develop after Midnight Tonight.  Snow or mixed precipitation will then continue on Saturday with mainly snow for Saturday Night.

Total snow and ice accumulations:  3-5".  Ice accumulations could approach 0.10".

Winds and visibility:  Wind speeds generally less than 20 mph during the event.  Blowing and drifting snow should not be much of an issue.  Visibilities may drop to under a mile at times in falling snow.

Impacts:  Expect travel conditions to become hazardous later Tonight through Sunday Morning.
