Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
A pleasant late Spring day with partly to mostly cloudy skies and highs in the 60s and 70s, temperatures even at the head of Lake Superior were fairly mild Today with just a hint of a lake breeze at times. There has been an area of light rain or mainly just some sprinkles pushing east out of Western Minnesota This Afternoon, this activity has moved to a Northome to Remer, Aitkin, and Brainerd line as of early This Evening, but as this band of precip moves farther east it's dying out due to a drier airmass out ahead of this small area of rain. Winds Today were south, west, or east under 15 mph.
Today's Upper Level Analysis:
W-SW 500mb flow was in place across the Upper Midwest per RUC model analysis. An upper level low was nearly stationary in Eastern Canada per water vapor satellite imagery while an upper level trough covered the Western U.S.
Light showers or sprinkles will persist through around 9-10 PM Tonight west of Interstate 35. The rest of Tonight will be dry. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are forecast with lows in the 40s and 50s. Winds will be out of the south or east under 15 mph.
Monday and Monday Night:
Partly to mostly sunny skies are expected Tomorrow with highs in the 60s and 70s along with south or east winds from 10-20 mph. High pressure will be nearly stationary across the Western-Central Great Lakes while low pressure stretches from the Northern Plains down to the Central Plains. Some showers could move into Northcentral-Eastern Minnesota, especially Monday Night while dry weather continues for Northwest Wisconsin to the Arrowhead of Minnesota. Lows Tomorrow Night under partly to mostly cloudy skies will be in the 40s and 50s.
Pattern remains the same through Tuesday with high pressure over the Great Lakes and low pressure to our west-south. Shower chances will persist Tuesday, June 14th for Northern-Eastern Minnesota with generally dry conditions for Northwest Wisconsin and the Arrowhead of Minnesota. Highs on Tuesday will be in the 60s and 70s with lows Tuesday Night in the 40s and 50s. High pressure will move far enough to our east on Wednesday, June 15th which will allow the low pressure and upper trough across the Northern Plains to move into the Upper Midwest...This system will bring a greater chance for rain showers to our area for Wednesday and Wednesday Night. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 50s and 60s with lows Wednesday Night in the 40s and 50s.
