Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Strong low pressure of 991mb has moved into Northeast Lake Michigan This Afternoon. Widespread snow or mixed precipitation tapered off from south to north This Afternoon. Spotty instability snow and sleet showers developed This Afternoon behind the low in an area of cold air aloft with 500mb temperatures of -25 to -30 degrees C per RUC model analysis. Highs Today were only in the upper 20s to middle 30s with northwesterly winds at 10-25 mph with higher gusts.
Low pressure will deepen to around 987mb as it heads into Eastern Lake Superior. Scattered snow and sleet showers will end This Evening, not expecting any further accumulation due to the quick moving nature of these showers, but expect reduced visibilities to around a mile as these showers move through. Lows Tonight will be in the teens and 20s with partly-mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be ou tof the north or west at 10-20 mph with some higher gusts.
Sunday and Sunday Night:
Partly-mostly cloudy skies can be expected during this period with high pressure passing through the Upper Midwest. Highs Tomorrow will be in the 30s and lower 40s with lows Sunday Night mainly in the 20s. North or northwest winds Tomorrow will become east Tomorrow Night, wind speeds will be under 20 mph.
A weak disturbance will move across the area on Monday and could bring some snow or rain showers to our area. Highs Monday will be in the 30s to around 40 with lows Monday Night in the 20s. The next storm moving into the Southern/Central Plains on Monday will head toward the Central-Eastern Great Lakes by mid-week. Computer models are not in very good agreement on the track, intensity, and timing of this storm so it remains to be seen if it will impact our area or not. If it does come far enough north, then another round of gusty winds, snow and or rain would occur for portions of our area from late Tuesday into Wednesday. Highs on Tuesday will be in the 30s to lower 40s with lows Tuesday Night in the 20s.
