3/20/11: WINTER WEATHER HEADLINE INFORMATION

All headlines issued by the National Weather Service Duluth, Minnesota.

*BLIZZARD WATCH*

A blizzard watch has been issued for Tuesday Morning through Wednesday Evening for the following counties:  Southern Lake MN...Southern St. Louis MN...Carlton MN...and Douglas WI.  Some cities included in the watch are:  Two Harbors MN...Duluth MN...Cloquet MN...Moose Lake MN...Superior WI...and Solon Springs WI.

Impacts:  Snow will move into the watch area Tuesday Morning and will continue through Wednesday.  The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur Tuesday Evening through Wednesday Morning.  Some freezing rain or sleet could mix in with the snow on Tuesday, but ice accumulations are not expected to be significant at this time.

East to northeast winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph Tuesday Morning with gusts over 40 mph Tuesday Afternoon through midday Wednesday.  The combination of strong winds and falling snow will cause blizzard conditions around the head of Lake Superior.  Travel will become extremely difficult or impossible by Tuesday Evening.

Total snowfall accumulations of 6-12" with locally greater amounts are possible in the watch area by Wednesday Evening.

This snow will be wet and this combined with 40 mph winds could cause power outages.

A blizzard watch means there is a potential for severe and life threatning winter weather conditions to occur.  People are urged to stay current with the latest weather information regarding this developing storm via local television, radio, the internet or NOAA weather radio.

Impacts:  Snow will move into Northcentral-Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin Tuesday Morning.  Snow will continue into Wednesday.  Some freezing rain or sleet could mix in with the snow on Tuesday with some ice accumulations possible especially along and south of a line from Brainerd to Hayward to Park Falls.

Total snowfall accumulations of 6-12" with locally higher amounts are possible in the watch area by Wednesday Evening.

Roads will become snow covered and slippery with extremely difficult or impossible travel conditions by Tuesday Evening.

A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant accumulation of snow, sleet, or ice that may impact travel and commerce.
