Weather Synopsis

A cold front was over northern Minnesota late this morning with the airmass near and south of this front destabilizing nicely after the early morning storms which moved through the area.  As the cold front heads south/east through late this afternoon it will run into a warm and moist environment with temperatures warming into the 80s to around 90 degrees while dew points range from the mid 60s to around 70 degrees.  There will be plenty of instability in place with CAPE of 1500-3500 j/kg.  Mid level winds are stronger today with around 40 knot winds at 500mb -- Deep layer wind shear is in the 30-40 knot range today which is favorable for storm organization.

The approach of the cold front and also an upper level disturbance from the NW should help to generate some more thunderstorms later this afternoon in parts of northeast Minnesota, western Lake Superior and over northern Wisconsin.  Note:  There is uncertainty on where storms will initiate and how far west they will be, there is still a chance that most of the activity will focus more into Wisconsin later today with a lesser chance in northeast Minnesota, but there's also a chance that storms will first develop in northeast Minnesota, then spread toward the south/east early this evening.
