Weather Synopsis

A very pleasant last day of May under partly cloudy to sunny skies.  Daytime highs were near to even slightly above average with temperatures ranging from the mid 60s to low 70s.

A tranquil night ahead under mostly clear skies.  Lows will be in the 40s but 30s are possible in the typical cold spots.

A few clouds for Thursday but overall another mostly sunny day.  A bit warmer than Wednesday with highs mainly in the 70s.  Winds are expected to be out of the west or southwest so the warm temperatures will be felt even in Downtown Duluth.

Friday looks dry during the day with highs forecast to be in the 70s, possibly even a few 80s.  Winds are expected to shift to an easterly direction sometime during the day, once this occurs temperatures will drop near Lake Superior.

Low pressure will move into the northern Plains late this week while a warm front sets up from NW-SE across western and south central Minnesota -- Computer models are showing a lot of instability building up near this boundary Friday with CAPE possibly in the 1500-2500 j/kg range in parts of the Northland by Friday night.  Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible especially Friday night in parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

The risk for additional scattered showers or thunderstorms continues this weekend but the computer models are not in the best agreement on the track and timing of this next low pressure system.  Temperatures are also problematic Saturday and Sunday.  Note:  Less rain and more sun would likely result in much warmer temperatures over most of the Northland whereas more rain and cloud cover would likely keep temperatures quite a bit cooler.  The European and Canadian models prefer a cooler/wetter weekend while the NAM and GFS show less rain and also much warmer temperatures in the 70s and 80s in our area Saturday and Sunday.
