The day started with some dense fog in portions of north central and northeast Minnesota, once the fog burned off skies were sunny to mostly sunny, and then clouds increased during the afternoon thanks to some lingering moisture combined with the daytime heating and weak instability...Pop up showers developed this afternoon in parts of the Northland with an isolated thunderstorm over the far northeast portion of Minnesota. Highs today were in the 60s with 50s and a few 40s closer to Lake Superior.
*Scattered showers and possibly an isolated thunderstorm will continue this evening in parts of northeast Minnesota and far northwest Wisconsin. Mainly dry overnight under partly cloudy skies. Areas of fog (Possibly dense) could redevelop late tonight in parts of the Northland. Lows will be in the 30s and 40s.
*Areas of fog should burn off Friday morning which will gave way to partly to mostly sunny skies. It'll be a warm day for early May standards with highs mainly in the 70s -- A nice bubble of warm air will advect SE into our area on Friday with 925mb temperatures of +15 to +20C and 850mb temps of around +10C. Note: Expect cooler temperatures near Lake Superior Friday with highs in the 40s and 50s, however, there is a chance that the wind direction will shift from the east to the west for at least a few hours Friday below the hill in Duluth and Superior, if that does happen, then temperatures could soar into the low 70s, but if that wind direction remains out of the east, then highs will remain in the 40s and 50s.
Forecast for Duluth and Superior
.Tonight... A few showers early otherwise partly to mostly cloudy. Areas of fog possible late. Low 35 to 40. Wind east to northeast at 5 to 15 mph with higher gusts.
.Friday... Low clouds and fog possible during the morning. Some sunshine by the afternoon. High 69 to 74 but it could be cooler closer to Lake Superior. Wind east around 10 mph early, becoming southwest, then northwest at 10 to 20 mph later in the day.
