Weather Summary for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin

Frigid! Arctic airmass covered the Northland today with high temperatures in the single digits below to around zero degrees.  The cold and dry air in place did lead to a lot of sunshine though.

.Short Term Forecast...

Tonight (December 18)

High pressure moves off to the southeast while a warm front approaches from the west.  Clear skies this evening giving way to partly to mostly cloudy skies late.  Still very cold tonight but not as bitter as last night.  Lows will be in the single digits below to around 20 below zero but temperatures will slowly rise after midnight.  Winds will shift to the south or southwest at 5 to 15 mph.

Monday (December 19)

An area of low pressure will track through the south half of Manitoba Province and into western Ontario Province on Monday -- A warm front moves through the area by early tomorrow afternoon, then a trough pushes east and approaches western parts of the Northland by early Tuesday morning.  Partly to mostly cloudy skies are forecast on Monday with moderating temperatures.  Highs will be in the teens and 20s with lows in the teens with single digits possible in parts of northwest Wisconsin.  Winds will be out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts possible.  Note:  There could be a few flurries or snow showers tomorrow and tomorrow night mainly over far northern Minnesota.

Tuesday (December 20)

Snow showers or flurries are possible on Tuesday in parts of the Northland but only a dusting of accumulation is currently forecast.  Highs will warm into the upper 20s to lower 30s with lows Tuesday night in the single digits and teens.

Wednesday (December 21)

A light snowfall event is possible in parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin on Wednesday as a low pressure system tracks east/southeast into the Upper Midwest.  Highs on Wednesday are forecast to be in the 20s to lower 30s.
