Forecast Discussion for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin
.Short Term Forecast...
Tonight (October 12)
Mostly cloudy skies this evening is forecast to give way to clearing skies later in the night. High pressure will build into the Upper Midwest during the night resulting in mainly dry conditions in our area but there will be a few exceptions this evening - One along the South Shore of Lake Superior where a few lake effect rain showers are possible, and the second area over parts of northern Minnesota where a few light rain or snow showers could linger.
Late afternoon 850mb temperatures in the -3 to -6 degree Celsius range will set the stage for a chilly night assuming skies do clear out. Lows are forecast to be in the 20s and 30s but it wouldn't surprise to see a few teens by daybreak in the typical cold spots in northern Minnesota.
Winds tonight will start out of the northwest but will shift to the west or southwest after midnight.
Thursday (October 13)
High pressure moves off to the east while a cold front to our north stalls out before moving south of the border. Partly cloudy skies are expected Thursday with highs in the 50s but in the 40s in the Arrowhead. Lows Thursday night will be in the 30s to lower 40s. Southwest winds are expected tomorrow at 10 to 20 mph.
Friday (October 14)
Mainly dry on Friday with highs in the 50s to lower 60s but in the 40s once again over the Arrowhead. Lows Friday night will mainly be in the 50s which is quite mild for mid October.
Saturday (October 15)
A cold front is forecast to move through the area on Saturday, this front could bring some showers to the Northland. Highs are forecast to be in the 60s despite the possibility for showers and mostly cloudy skies.
Note: Active weather pattern possible between October 16-19 with a couple areas of low pressure possibly affecting the Upper Midwest which could bring some rain to the Northland depending on the tracks these lows take.
