A very active severe weather day on July 5th, 2016.  Source, Storm Prediction Center.

The southern half of Minnesota and southern Wisconsin and parts of northern Minnesota were hit hard by severe weather Tuesday.

*5:25 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  4 ENE of Six Mile Lake (Cass County)  Lots of trees down on Highway 2 between mile marker 145 and mile marker 157.

*5:25 PM CDT:  HAIL.  0.88 inch diameter.  7 NNW of Ball Club, MN (Itasca County)  Largest hail size was nickel.  Hail duration of 2 minutes.

*5:28 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  7 NNW of Ball Club, MN (Itasca County)  Couple of 8-10 inch diameter trees down.  Power out.

*5:45 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST.  70 mph.  1 E of Zemple, MN (Itasca County)  Estimated 70 mph wind gusts.  Lots of trees down across county roads in and near Deer River.

*5:45 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST.  55 mph.  Bigfork, MN (Itasca County)  Estimated 50-55 mph wind gust.

*5:57 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST.  59 mph.  2 N of Bigfork, MN (Itasca County)

*6:00 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  5 NNW of Grand Rapids, MN (Itasca County)  Multiple trees down in the area.  Largest trees were 2-3 feet in diameter.

*6:02 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  2 S of Grand Rapids, MN (Itasca County)  6-8 inch diameter trees down.

*6:56 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  1 ESE of Toivola, MN (St. Louis County)  14-16 inch diameter maple tree split just above the trunk and knocked over.

*7:38 PM CDT:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  5 NE of Fredenberg, MN (St. Louis County)  Large trees and power lines downed.

*Lake Country Power reported more than 3,000 customers were without power in the Grand Rapids area.

*More than 2,300 Minnesota Power customers were without power along a line from Deer River in Itasca County to Normanna Township in St. Louis County.
