July 24, 2016: More wind damage reported following early Sunday morning severe storms in southern parts of the Northland. Additional storm reports from July 21st also in this post

---Thursday, July 21st storm reports---

*3:37 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  4 NE of Sea Gull Lake, MN (Cook County)  Many trees downed.  Largest diameter trees were approximately 16 to 20 inches.  Some trees uprooted and others sheared off.

*3:29 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  1 ENE of Duluth, MN (St. Louis County)  The Duluth Board of Trade Building in Downtown Duluth was damaged by severe winds.  The chimney crashed through the roof of the seventh floor.  The damage also affected the storage room for costumes for the Minnesota Ballet.  The anemometer on top of the nearby county government building measured gusts around 100 mph.

*3:59 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  Oulu, WI (Bayfield County)  Straight line winds...with gusts likely around or in excess of 90 mph...destroyed a trailer home in Oulu.  The trailer home was built in the 80s...and was in the middle of a farm field...so very exposed to the wind.  There were also numerous trees down along the tree line.

*3:58 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  Brule, WI (Douglas County)  There were trees and at least one power line down along the county road near Brule.

*4:26 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  2 WSW of Cable, WI (Bayfield County)  Numerous trees down along Cable Sunset Road west of Cable.

*4:45 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  Northwoods Beach, WI (Sawyer County)  Numerous trees down near Northwoods Beach.

*4:46 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  1 ESE of Northwoods Beach, WI (Sawyer County)  Numerous trees down along and near Skunawong Lane on the east side of Lac Courte Oreilles.

*4:05 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  3 NNE of Iron River, WI (Bayfield County)  There were numerous trees down near Jackman Lake.

*4:31 AM:  MARINE THUNDERSTORM WIND.  70 mph.  7 E of Sand Bay, WI (Ashland County)  Numerous trees were down on Oak Island.

*3:30 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  3 WNW of Superior, WI (Douglas County)  There was a large tree down along Belknap street.

*3:31 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  1 N of Superior, WI (Douglas County)  Two docks on Barker's Island were damaged.

*3:31 AM:  MARINE THUNDERSTORM WIND.  103 mph.  1 E of Duluth, MN (St. Louis County)  The Algoma Guardian...A ship 729 feet long...Was moving through the Duluth Ship Canal when severe winds struck.  The ship's anemometer measured a gust of 103 mph.  The crew had difficulty maintaing its course through the narrow canal and avoid hitting the barriers on the sides of the canal.  The Aerial Lift Bridge operator said the bridge's anemometer measured a gust as high as 80 mph...But it's anemometer was more sheltered than the ship's anemometer.

*4:40 AM:  MARINE THUNDERSTORM WIND.  70 mph.  13 E of Red Cliff, WI (Ashland County)  Numerous trees were down on Michigan Island.

*3:35 AM;  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  2 E of Hermantown, MN (St. Louis County)  There were a few large trees down in front of the Deerfield Townhomes.

*3:23 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  Hermantown, MN (St. Louis County)  There were trees down along Ugstad Road.

*3:30 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  2 SE of Arnold, MN (St. Louis County)  A large tree fell and damaged a vehicle.

*2:38 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  Ely, MN (St. Louis County)  A softball dugout was destroyed.

*12:20 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST.  51 mph.  5 NE of Brainerd, MN (Crow Wing County)

*12:41 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  3 ESE of Cuyuna Country ST.  A tree fell and took down a power line of Beach Road.

*1:07 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  2 SSW of Malmo, MN (Aitkin County)  A few trees down.

*3:35 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  4 S of Barnes, WI (Bayfield County)  Near the intersection of County Highway N and Barnes road there were multiple large pine trees uprooted or snapped.  Spotter estimated that the largest trees were approximately 12 inches in diameter.

*2:06 AM:  THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE.  1 NE of Willow River, MN (Pine County)  Few trees reported down in the Willow River Campground area.
