Here's how much rain has fallen today per radar estimates -- Sometimes hail can contaminate radar estimated rain totals but there's been reports of around 4-5" of rain so far in southern portions of the Northland.
The biggest threat tonight here locally continues to be the flash flooding that is occurring for areas generally south of Highway 2 in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Source, Aerisweather.com

*7:11 PM: HEAVY RAIN. 5.25". 3 SW of Superior, WI (Douglas County) Total rainfall since this morning. Along with very heavy rainfall there was ponding occurring in the neighbors yard.
*6:44 PM: THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE. 2 NNE of Little Round Lake, WI (Sawyer County) Several trees down. The largest was 14-18 inches in diameter.
*7:04 PM: HEAVY RAIN. 4.50". Barnes, WI (Douglas County) Rain fell between 12-2 PM.
*7:30 PM: FLASH FLOOD. Ashland, WI (Ashland County) The sheriff office in Ashland County reported that nearly every street in Ashland is under water.
*6:26 PM: FLASH FLOOD. 1 S of Crosby, MN (Crow Wing County) Flooding is reported in Crosby.
*5:30 PM: FLASH FLOOD. 4 SSE of Rice Lake Wildlife (Aitkin County) 10-12 inches of water over roadway at crossing of Rice River and county road 4 in Rice River Township.
*5:30 PM: FLASH FLOOD. 2 SE of Aitkin, MN (Aitkin County) 10-12 inches of water over roadway at intersection of 344th street and county road 12 in Nordland Township. A car was reported being pushed by the water on the roadway.
*5:30 PM: FLASH FLOOD. SW Kimberly, MN (Aitkin County) 10-12 inches of water at the intersection of county road 5 and Rice River Crossing. Water flowing over the roadway.
3:17 PM: THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE. Sandstone, MN (Pine County) Trees downed in Sandstone which brought power lines down.
7:15 PM: FLASH FLOOD. 3 E of East Gull Lake, MN (Crow Wing County) Roadway covered with water at the intersection of 371 and Birchdale.
7:15 PM: FLASH FLOOD. Baxter, MN (Crow Wing County) 1 foot of water on roadways in the Industrial Park area in Baxter. Also have reports of water covering the roadway on Highway 371 in Baxter.

Low pressure was over the northern Plains with a warm front close to central Minnesota -- An incredible amount of moisture continues to push north over this warm front this evening with PWATS of 2.00-2.20" across parts of the Northland per meso-analysis data. Showers and thunderstorms with torrential rainfall and frequent lightning continue to develop and affect much of north central, east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this evening and expect this to continue for the rest of the evening.
A risk for severe thunderstorms continues as well mainly over east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin through late this evening. Large hail and damaging wind gusts are the biggest threats if storms become severe.
