It could be an active day especially this afternoon and evening across the Northland thanks to a strong area of low pressure which will lift northeast out of the northern Plains -- A warm front and cold front attached to the surface low will pass through the area through this evening -- A warm, humid and unstable airmass will be found along and ahead of the low today with enough wind shear and stronger mid/upper level winds in place to support some risk for severe weather.
A few showers and thunderstorms in parts of the area this morning will give way to a mix of sun/clouds with redevelopment of thunderstorms expected this afternoon, most likely in the 1-4 PM time frame in western portions of the area -- Storms will then move off to the east or northeast affecting east central and northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin from late this afternoon through the evening hours.
All modes of severe weather are possible today including large hail, damaging wind and perhaps a few tornadoes.
