Date:  April 12, 2016

Mainly sunny skies during the morning gave way to partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies this afternoon as a warm advection pattern gets underway as southerly winds develop on the backside of a 1028mb high which was over the central-eastern Great Lakes this afternoon.  High temperatures today ranged from the mid to upper 30s near Lake Superior with 40s common elsewhere.  Winds were out of the south or southeast at 5 to 15 mph.

Short Term Forecast - Confidence:  High.

Tonight (April 12)

Mostly cloudy skies with a chance for some light rain and snow mainly over east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.  Snowfall accumulations if any should be less than 1".  Lows will be in the 20s and 30s with south or east winds at 10 to 15 mph.

Wednesday and Wednesday night (April 13)

Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected on Wednesday.  Highs will be in the 40s and 50s with near 60 degree temperatures possible near the Brainerd Lakes.  It will be cooler near Lake Superior with 30s for daytime highs.  Lows Wednesday night will be in the 30s and 40s.  Winds will be out of the south or east at 10 to 20 mph.

Extended Forecast - Confidence:  Medium to High.

Thursday through Saturday (April 14-16)

Mainly dry conditions are expected in most of the Northland from Thursday through Saturday as a blocking pattern develops near the Upper Midwest.  About the only part of the area that could get a few rain showers at times would be the far west or northwest areas but the majority of the rain should remain west-northwest of our local area from Thursday through Saturday.

High temperatures are expected to be in the 60s and 70s on Thursday and Friday with 60s to near 70 degree high temperatures on Saturday.  Low temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s Thursday night and mainly in the 40s Friday night.

Note:  Expect cooler high temperatures of around 40 or in the 40s near Lake Superior on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Long Range Forecast - Confidence:  Medium.

(April 17-22)

Above average temperatures are forecast during the long range along with generally dry conditions the way it looks now.  There will be some rain at times from the 17th-20th but most of this looks like it will remain west and south of the Northland.
