Weather Summary for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin
Date:  March 22, 2016

There was a little bit of snow in parts of the area earlier today but this didn't amount to much.  This afternoon sky conditions ranged from mostly sunny in far Northern Minnesota to partly-mostly sunny in Western-far Southern areas while mostly cloudy skies prevailed in Northeast Minnesota, far Northern Wisconsin and also near Lake Superior.  High temperatures today were in the 30s with lower 40s around the Brainerd Lakes and in far Southern parts of Northwest Wisconsin.  Winds today were out of the east or northeast at 5 to 15 mph with gusts over 30 mph near Lake Superior -- Northeast winds coming down Lake Superior helped to develop a few brief lake effect snow showers today but the setup for lake effect snow is quite marginal today.

Forecast Discussion for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin

Short Term Forecast - Confidence:  High.

Tonight (March 22)

High pressure to our north and low pressure moving out into Central Plains will result in partly to mostly cloudy skies in our area tonight with gusty winds continuing near Lake Superior.  Low temperatures will be in the teens and 20s with single digits in extreme Northern Minnesota.  Winds will be out of the east or northeast at 5 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph near Lake Superior.

Wednesday and Wednesday night (March 23)

High pressure will remain to our north while low pressure tracks from North Central Kansas to Western Illinois, snow associated with that low will remain to our south on Wednesday.  Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies in our area with highs in the 20s and 30s with lows Wednesday night in the teens and 20s.  Winds will remain out of the east or northeast at 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph near Lake Superior.

Extended Forecast - Confidence:  Medium to High.

Thursday through Saturday (March 24-26)

Dry on Thursday with highs in the 30s to around 40 degrees, lows Thursday night will be in the teens and 20s.

An area of low pressure along with a warm front and cold front will pass through the Upper Midwest from Friday into Saturday -- This system should bring some light wet snow and possibly some rain to the Northland.  At the moment were not looking at too much snow accumulation, maybe a band of 1-3" over some parts of Northern or Eastern Minnesota.

Highs on Friday will be in the 30s and 40s with lows Friday night in the 20s and 30s.  Highs on Saturday will be in the 30s.

Long Range Forecast - Confidence:  Medium.

(March 27-April 1)

Near to above average temperatures from the 27th-30th followed by below average temperatures from March 31-April 1.  Rain is possible on the 29th-30th as low pressure passes over or near the Upper Midwest, the rain could change over to a little bit of snow on March 31st-April 1st.
