-Snow event update (1 PM)

*Early Afternoon snow event update (I'm hesitant to call this a winter storm)

Here's the latest headline information per National Weather Service Duluth, Minnesota

*WINTER STORM WARNING*

Location:  Parts of Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin.

Counties included:

Carlton MN
Southern St Louis MN
Douglas WI

Cities included:

Wright MN...Moose Lake MN...Cloquet MN...Floodwood MN...Duluth MN...Superior WI...and Solon Springs WI.

Timing:  6 PM This Evening until 6 PM CST Tuesday.

Discussion:  Periods of light snow or flurries will gradually develop late This Afternoon and This Evening, little if any accumulation is expected.  Steadier snow is expected to develop Overnight Tonight and last through most of Tuesday. 

Total snowfall accumulations:  3-6".  The highest amounts are expected to fall from near Floodwood and Wright toward Kettle River and Moose Lake with the least amounts falling along and east of  a line from Poplar to Solon Springs, Wisconsin in Central, Southern and Eastern portions of Douglas County.

Winds:  East to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Visibility:  Visibilities could be reduced to a half mile or less at times late Tonight and Tuesday due to falling and blowing snow.

Impacts:  Roads will become snow covered and slippery Tonight and Tuesday.  Slow down and use extreme caution if you have travel plans.  Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination.

Cities included:

International Falls MN...Northome MN...Bigfork MN...Grand Rapids MN...Cass Lake MN...Walker MN...Pine River MN...Brainerd MN...Hill City MN...Aitkin MN...and McGregor MN.

Timing:  Through 4 PM CST Tuesday.

Discussion:  Occasional light snow and flurries will continue This Afternoon and early This Evening.  A steadier snow will arrive This Evening and will continue through most of Tuesday.  The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur late Tonight and Tuesday Morning.

Total snowfall accumulations:  4-8" with the greatest amounts along and west-southwest of a line from Birchdale to Bigfork to Grand Rapids to Tamarack.  Amounts closer to 4" are expected for International Falls, Togo, and Nashwauk.

Winds:  East to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Visibility:  Visibilities of a half mile or less at times Tonight and Tuesday due to falling and some blowing snow.

Impacts:  Roads will become snow covered and icy This Evening into Tuesday.  Slow down and use extreme caution if you have travel plans.  Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination.

Hinckley MN...Pine City MN...Danbury WI...Grantsburg WI...and Siren WI.

Timing:  Through 6 PM CST Tuesday.

Discussion:  Occasional light snow and flurries through early This Evening.  A steadier snow develops mid-Evening through Tuesday before ending late Tuesday Afternoon.

Total snowfall accumulations:  4-8".

Winds and visibility:  East to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph.  Visibilities of one half mile or less at times Tonight and Tuesday due to falling and blowing snow.

Impacts:  Roads will turn snow covered and icy with difficult travel conditions expected.  Slow down and use extreme caution if you have travel plans and remember to allow extra time to reach your destination.

Sawyer WI

Cities included:  Minong WI...Spooner WI...Shell Lake WI...Hayward WI...Exeland WI...and Winter WI.

Timing:  6 PM This Evening until 6 PM CST Tuesday.

Discussion:  Flurries or light snow could occur at times through This Evening.  Snow should gradually become steadier late Tonight through Tuesday.

Total snowfall accumulations:  2-5" with the best chance for seeing up to 5" of snow occurring over Washburn County including the cities of Minong, Spooner and Shell Lake.

Winds and visibility:  East to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph.  Visibilities could drop to a half mile or less at times Tonight and Tuesday due to falling and blowing snow.

Impacts:  Roads will become snow covered and slippery with hazardous travel conditions expected.  Slow down and use extreme caution if you have travel plans and remember to allow extra time to reach your destination.

Discussion:  Light snow gradually develops Tonight and will last through Tuesday.

Total snowfall accumulations:  1-4".

Winds and visibility:  East to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph.  Visibilities could fall to around a mile at times later Tonight and Tuesday due to falling and blowing snow.

Impacts:  Roads will become snow covered and slippery in spots.  Use caution and slow down if you have travel plans.
